Moesin is a member of the ERM (Ezrin-Radixin-Moesin) protein family, which possesses structural and probably functional relationships; they function as plasma membrane-actin cytoskeleton linkers and participate in the formation of specialized domains of the plasma membrane and are all localized to the submembranous cytoskeleton. Moesin is widely expressed in different tissues in cells, where it is localized to filopodia and other membranous protrusions that are important for cell-cell recognition and signalling and for cell movement.
Moesin是細胞骨架與細胞膜之間的連接蛋白,對細胞膜區域的整合和穩定性起到結構和功能調控的作用.通過連接細胞骨架和細胞膜。Moesin對細胞黏附、形態、分化、運動等起到重要調節作用。膜突蛋白早先被鑒定為一種硫酸乙酰肝素的可能受體和細胞骨架的連接蛋白，能穩定細胞表面的微絨毛、絲足和層形足板。膜-細胞骨架連接蛋白的埃茲蛋白-根蛋白-膜突蛋白（ERM）家族的成員都具有與質膜和肌動蛋白細胞骨架分別相連的氨基端和羧基端結構域。
