Background: ABI2 (Abelson interactor 2) belongs to the ABI family. The Abelson interactors are among a group of proteins that interact with Abl tyrosine kinase, a non-receptor tyrosine kinase whose activation results in the regulation of cytoskeleton function, cell growth and apoptosis in response to a variety of biological stimuli. ABI2 may act in regulation of cell growth and transformation by interacting tyrosine kinases ABL1 and/or ABL2 and may be involved in cytoskeletal reorganization and regulation of the ABL1/c-Abl-mediated phosphorylation of MENA. ABI2 is also known to be a tumor suppressor and a cell migration inhibitor.
