Background: Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), is a member of the group of phytohormones called auxins and is generally considered to be the most important native auxin. It is synthesized by plants from the amino acid tryptophan. IAA also promotes growth of vascular tissue, increases the plant cell wall plasticity and prevents premature falling of fruit and flower leaves.
